Samsung Galaxy S20, S20+ & S20 Ultra First Impressions

So today, as mentioned earlier was Samsung’s big reveal event where they would reveal the long anticipated smartphones of the company for 2020.

After watching the whole presentation following you will read some of my thoughts.

First, the trendy Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. Nice design, improved from the last year’s Galaxy fold but with high cost. Available, at 14th of February. Watch the introduction video below and let me know with your thoughts.

Second, the Galaxy S20 line up!

We have 3 different models this year, the Galaxy S20, the Galaxy S20+ and the pro edition Galaxy S20 Ultra.

Watch MKBHD giving his first impressions regarding the devices.

Third, is the Galaxy S20 Ultra, the beast in the papers.

It has all the big numbers, 5000mAh battery, 512 GB of storage + expandable, 108MP camera, 100x zoom and lots more!! Again watch the first impressions video from the Youtuber.

And last, fourth. In way to show off their latest phones Samsung chose to film and broadcast their presentation using only Galaxy S20 Ultras! It was pretty impressive seriously, you can now do so many things with only one device and have a great result.

But… there is always a but! For me is not the numbers that count. I can not say, the 2020 series of phones from Samsung are amazing, They have everything a normal user and a pro user might want to full feel their daily needs but focusing on the numbers sometimes compromises quality.

And if you compare the camera quality of these phones with the Pixel 4 or iPhone 11 pro cameras you will notice the quality in the images that the camera takes in terms of color correction, noise and dynamic range.

How to watch Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2020

Samsung’s big Unpacked event, where the company is introducing its latest (and, it hopes, greatest) products, is today, February 11th. If you’re a Samsung fan or you’re just interested in the latest tech devices, it should be interesting to watch.

News about many of the products that the company plans to announce is already buzzing around the internet, including Samsung’s latest flagship phone series, the Samsung Galaxy S20 and S20 Plus (which should include 5G support); a foldable Galaxy Z Flip; and a pair of true wireless earbuds.

But nothing is certain, and during today’s event, Samsung may yet have a few surprises up its sleeve. Of course, there should be all of the usual hoopla that accompanies an announcement: speeches by top executives, product demos, videos, and perhaps a special guest or two — not to mention our always fun-to-read live blogging of the event. Here’s how to follow along:

WHERE TO WATCH:

Keynote start time: New York: 2PM / San Francisco: 11AM / London: 7PM / Berlin: 8PM / Moscow: 10PM / New Delhi: 12:30AM (February 12th) / Beijing: 3AM (February 12th) / Tokyo: 4AM (February 12th) / Melbourne: 6AM (February 12th)

Live stream: Samsung is streaming the event live on its website for desktop viewing.

New leak reveals almost everything about the Samsung Galaxy S20

We’ve seen plenty of leaked information around the Samsung Galaxy S20 (previously the Galaxy S11) this week, and to top it all off we now have what looks like (almost) full spec sheets for the S20, the S20 Plus, and the S20 Ultra phones.

Courtesy of tipster Ishan Agarwal and MySmartPrice, the leaks don’t leave many gaps, so look away now if you still want to be surprised when the phones launch on February 11 (assuming these specs are accurate, of course).

All three phones – or at least the 5G variants – use an AMOLED display with a 20:9 aspect ratio, 3,200 x 1,440 pixel resolution and  120Hz refresh rate, and come with Android 10 on board. IP68 waterproofing and 128GB of storage is common across all three models too.

The S20, S0 Plus and S20 Ultra all come with an Exynos 990 chipset running the show as per this leaked spec sheet, though we’re expecting the Snapdragon 865 to be the processor that Samsung uses in some parts of the world. RAM isn’t mentioned here, but is expected to be 12GB and up.

Each phone uses a different display size – a 6.2-inch screen on the S20, a 6.7-inch screen on the S20 Plus, and a 6.9-inch screen on the S20 Ultra. The battery sizes vary too: 4,000mAh, 4,500mAh and 5,000mAh respectively.

Camera-wise, we’ve got a 64MP+12MP+12MP rear camera on the S20 with 3x optical zoom, the same spec on the S20 Plus with an additional time-of-flight depth sensor, and a 108MP+48MP+12MP rear camera on the S20 Ultra, with a ToF sensor and 10x optical zoom.

That matches some previous leaks but contradicts rumors that had suggested the S20 phones would top out with a 5x optical zoom. As with any unofficial leak, we won’t know for certain if they’re right until the phones are actually launched, and it’s possible the non-5G models will vary somewhat.

The big day is February 11, when Samsung is going to be showing off the Galaxy S20, the Galaxy S20 Plus and the Galaxy S20 Ultra off to the world. TechRadar will be on the ground at the event of course, and we’ll bring you all the news as it happens.

Samsung CEO reveals name of the next foldable, confirms S20 family in secret meeting

Samsung allegedly held secret meetings at CES with partners and carrier customers, where it showcased yet-unannounced products. This is not surprising in itself, because the company has been known to do this in the past.

What’s more surprising is what came out of these meetings this week. First off, Samsung Mobile boss DJ Koh allegedly revealed the official name of the phone we’ve all been calling Galaxy Fold 2. The next foldable is going to be called Galaxy Bloom. There’s even a blurry picture that’s purportedly been hastily shot in one such meeting by an attendee, to prove this.

Samsung CEO reveals name of the next foldable, confirms S20 family in secret meeting

Samsung is apparently planning to market this product to women in their 20s, which explains the name (although it’s not entirely clear how), but also the shape. The inspiration for the design came from Lancome’s compacts, and when you put the two side by side as below, that’s sure starting to make a lot of sense.

Samsung CEO reveals name of the next foldable, confirms S20 family in secret meeting

The device won’t have a plastic film on top of its screen like the original Galaxy Fold, instead using ultra-thin glass. The Galaxy Bloom will shoot 8K video, and will be the first smartphone to support this function. There will be both 4G and 5G versions of the Bloom.

Additionally, Koh apparently confirmed the much rumored new naming strategy for the flagship Galaxy S line. The three models launching at the February 11 event will be called S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra. Samsung chose to not keep counting up one by one in order to properly celebrate the start of the new decade.

The Galaxy S20 Ultra is said to sport a 108 MP main rear camera, as well as support for 100x zoom. All three will have 8K recording capabilities too.

Samsung spoils its own surprise at CES 2020 – here’s its new bezel-free 8K TV

It’s rare that a company ruins its own surprises at CES – but that’s exactly what happened to Samsung today as the Korean branch of the company announced the new bezel-less Samsung Q950TS 8K QLED TV ahead of its unveiling at a Samsung US event that’s being held Sunday, January 5 before the official start of CES 2020

The new flagship 8K QLED TV sports Sansung’s new Infinity Screen that, according to a translated announcement post, is 99% screen on the front face.

The post says the new Q950TS is just 15mm deep despite utilizing a Full Array Local Dimming backlight, will be one of the first to offer deep-learning AI upscaling (a purported upgrade on last year’s AI upscaling algorithm) and offers a redesigned smart user experience that should make finding shows to watch even easier.

The nearly-bezel-less frame is something Samsung’s QLED TVs have been trending towards over the last few years – as have other manufacturers’ models – but now we’ve finally reached one of the smallest bezels possible on an LED-LCD TV.

Now your TV thinks you’re a couch potato, too

The last big upgrade to this year’s flagship is Samsung Health integration that tracks “key wellness metrics to help you manage your personal health”. Some of these metrics include time spent meditating, calories burned, weight, glucose levels and sleep patterns – plus, on the mobile app at least, Samsung Health allows you to chat with a board-certified physician if you have a question or need a prescription.

Apparently, watching TV can be good for your health.

While Samsung seems to be coming from a place of genuine good faith, having another platform that stores health information – especially one known to collect data from its users for third-party advertisers – feels like a bit of a misstep.

Sure, being able to quickly check your TV to see how stairs you climbed this afternoon or how many calories you burned at the gym could assuage your guilt as you binge-watch Netflix at night, but that could come at a steep price if hackers find a way to get that information from the TV’s software.

The silver lining here is that Samsung isn’t planning on rolling out the Samsung Health integration right away, thankfully, so it has ample time to install proper security protocols around that data.

Samsung announces the Galaxy S10 Lite and Note 10 Lite

After weeks of rumors and leaks, Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy S10 Lite and Note 10 Lite ahead of CES 2020. The phones are budget versions of Samsung’s popular 2019 flagships, and they promise to bring premium features from those high-end phones down to more affordable price points (although Samsung hasn’t said what those prices will be just yet).

Both phones feature 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O displays at 2400 × 1080 resolution, with center-mounted hole-punch front-facing cameras, 4,500mAh batteries, and either 6GB or 8GB of RAM with 128GB internal storage. But the rest of the internal hardware differs greatly between the two devices.NO WORD ON PRICES OR RELEASE DATES

The Galaxy S10 Lite features a Snapdragon 855 processor, while the Galaxy Note 10 Lite offers Samsung’s in-house Exynos 8895 chipset. The rear camera systems both offer triple-lens setups, but they are also completely different on the two phones.

Note 10 Lite.

The S10 Lite offers a 5-megapixel f/2.4 macro lens; a 48-megapixel F2.0 wide-angle lens featuring “Super Steady OIS,” a feature that the Note 10 Lite doesn’t offer; and a 12-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide featuring a 123-degree angle lens.

The Note 10 Lite has an entirely different configuration: a 12-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide; a 12-megapixel f/1.7 wide-angle lens with dual-pixel technology and OIS; and a 12-megapixel f/2.4 telephoto lens (also with OIS).

Rounding out the differences, of course, is the S Pen on the Note 10 Lite, which isn’t included with the S10 Lite. The S Pen features the same Bluetooth Low-Energy (BLE) support introduced with the Note 9 in 2018, allowing it to be used to control the phone.

There’s no word yet on the prices or release dates for the S10 Lite or Note 10 Lite or the markets where they’ll be sold.

Could this be Samsung’s bezel-less 8K TV?

Samsung may have a new, groundbreaking type of television to show off at CES in Las Vegas next week: a completely bezel-less, 8K QLED model. Dubbed by some reports as the Samsung “Zero Bezel” TV and reportedly carrying model numbers of Q900T and Q950T, this TV is believed to have bezels so tiny that the screen edge effectively disappears when viewed from a distance. On Tuesday, German website 4KFilme says it has its hands on a pair of leaked renders showing the screen in all its bezel-less glory.

We don’t have very much else to go on, and of course this being an unannounced product, there’s no word yet on pricing, release date, or what size options a set like this would come in. But that said, it does sound perfectly in Samsung’s wheelhouse given the display innovations its pioneered on its Galaxy smartphone line. We’ll likely know more next week when CES is in full swing and Samsung announces its annual TV lineup refresh.

Samsung unveils new foldable flip phone concept

Samsung has teased a new foldable phone concept onstage at the company’s developer conference today. The new concept, which Samsung didn’t name, looks more like a traditional flip phone thanks to a foldable display that allows the device to fold in half.

“This brand-new form factor that we’re now exploring will not only easily fit in your pocket, but it also changes the way you use your phone,” explained Hyesoon Jeong, head of Samsung’s framework R&D group, onstage at Samsung’s Developer Conference. The idea behind the concept is to take Samsung’s foldable smartphone technology and push it to “become more compact,” and extend to new device form factors.

Samsung didn’t spend much time detailing the device, nor when the company plans to make this available. There was no mention of the hardware involved, and whether Samsung has improved its foldable display technology from last year.

The company did use this mysterious device as a bridge to discuss an upcoming update to its One UI efforts with Android. “As a pioneer in the foldable category, we understand that every innovative form factor requires an equally innovative user experience,” explained Jeong.

Samsung has been working on improving its Android user interface since it debuted the Galaxy Fold device earlier this year, and the company is now working on One UI 2. which looks like a more refined version of the changes the company introduced with the S10 and Note 10 this year.

One UI 2 includes more glanceable information, better reachability for one-handed use, and “more vibrant hues” throughout the OS. Animated icons will be available too, and a full dark mode. Overall, it looks like minor but useful changes to the customization Samsung offers today with its Android handsets.

Software aside, this new clamshell / flip phone foldable hardware looks like the future of devices like Samsung’s Galaxy Fold. While the Fold started off life with a lot of screen issues, it’s clear Samsung isn’t ready to give up on foldable display technology. Samsung didn’t provide solid details today, but the company is teasing that the future of foldable phones might look like the popular Motorola Razr of the past.

MKBHD: Samsung Galaxy Fold Re-do: Everything New!

Samsung earlier this year, unveiled their first entry into the folding phones category with the long anticipated and leaked, Samsung Galaxy Fold.

The folding phone was covered and reviewed by the media globally both for it’s positive specs and negative. Well mostly for the negative.

It is true that the long anticipated folding phone had some flaws or gimmicks, for example the folding screen.

Samsung then recalled all the devices, to fix all the flaws and they are back with a re-do.

Here is the full video of what has been done from the tech giant to relaunch the Galaxy Fold.
